From Campidano to Trexentain Train from Cagliari (Monserrato) to Mandas
Get ready, the train is about to leave! From San Gottardo di Monserrato, in the heart of Cagliari, we will board the brand new Stadler trains for a journey that will take us to discover the most authentic and fascinating Sardinia.
Crossing the lower Campidano, we will immerse ourselves in a journey rich in history, culture and traditions, following in the footsteps of David Herbert Lawrence and his famous book “Sea and Sardinia” (1921). Our journey will take us through enchanting and picturesque landscapes, passing through Settimo S. Pietro, Soleminis, Dolianova, Donori, Barrali, Senorbì, Suelli and Gesico, until we reach the small but historically important station of Mandas.
Here, a special stop awaits us: a station that was once one of the nerve centers of technological progress, with monumental locomotives and rusty carriages that tell of a past of great movement and innovation. From the station, on foot, we will enter the heart of the historic stone center, where we will visit the Ethnographic Museum "Is Lollas de Is Aiaius". A true treasure chest of objects, memories and stories of women and men who have left indelible traces of their experiences.
A little further on, we will immerse ourselves in the Archaeological Museum “MAHMU”, which houses Nuragic, Phoenician and Roman finds: fragments of a past that will help us better understand the roots of who we are today. For lunch, we will stop at a nearby farmhouse, where we can taste delicious 0 km dishes, in an atmosphere of conviviality and relaxation. After coffee, we will watch a show cooking performed by a very talented housewife from Mandarore, and we will have the opportunity to learn some culinary secrets to replicate at home or simply admire her mastery. In the afternoon, a few minutes walk will take us to the complex of San Francesco, a place of great charm founded in 1610.
The church houses a library and the Museum of Sacred Art “Peregrinatio Fidei”, where jewels and statues will invite us to reflect on the symbolism between the sacred and the profane. A few more steps and we will find ourselves in front of the parish church of San Giacomo, which represents a bridge between the past and the present, witness to two centuries of religious life. Finally, we will return to the historic center to complete our circular route, up to the train station.
And here, all aboard! The return will be a moment of total relaxation, aboard our comfortable Stadler train, which will take us back along the same tracks laid over 150 years ago, towards Monserrato and the San Gottardo station. A journey full of images, emotions and stories to share, with some new friends and many memories to take home.

10.40 Arrival in Mandas in the historic station and start of the pedestrian route of the historic village, with a guided tour, up to the museums
11.10 Arrival and guided tour of the Archaeological Museum “MaHMu” and the nearby Ethnographic Museum “Is lollas de is aiaius” with the medieval compendium of S.Antonio Abate (with toilet stops)
12.30 Continuation of the pedestrian route in the historic village, up to the area of the nineteenth-century compendium of San Francesco and from here to the refreshment point
