Through Sarcidano, up to Laconi by Green Train from Mandas to Laconi

Imagine setting off on board the Trenino Verde, a fascinating journey through the heart of Sarcidano, from Mandas to Laconi. Your adventure begins at the Mandas station, where you board the historic V2D carriages from the 1930s, accompanied by your tour guide.

From here, the train moves slowly through enchanting landscapes, crossing a sub-mountain territory rich in colors: multicolored flowers, Mediterranean shrubs and panoramas that will leave you breathless. During the journey, a special stop allows you to visit the Nuraghe Is Paras in Isili, an authentic witness of an ancient civilization that thrived here over three thousand years ago.

Continuing north, you will cross viaducts and tunnels that pass over ancient valleys, now transformed into lakes such as Is Barroccus, with its islands and hills that were once dry land. On one of these islands still stands the country church of S. Sebastiano, reachable only by boat, an image that will remain etched in your memory.

From Nurallao to Laconi, the tracks move away from the asphalt roads, following quieter paths through woods and mountains, offering breathtaking views and a sense of peace. Once in Laconi, the train stops in the upper part of the town, where a landscape full of surprises awaits you: waterfalls photographed in every corner, a quiet lake, the walls of the castle and a well-kept and fragrant garden, perfect for taking some photos.

After this exploration, a delicious lunch based on local products awaits you, a perfect moment to awaken your senses and savor the authentic flavors of Sardinia. In the afternoon, a visit to the village of Laconi will immerse you in the atmosphere of serenity that characterized the life of Sant'Ignazio, with its imposing sanctuary and the simple and charming little house where he was born.

If you wish, you can also visit the Menhir Museum, an optional but fascinating experience. At sunset, the Green Train resumes its return journey to Mandas, arriving at 18:30. The afternoon light, different from that of the outward journey, creates a magical and relaxing atmosphere, perfect for taking new photos and fully enjoying this wonderful adventure.

PROGRAM OF THE DAY

08.45 Meeting at the Mandas Green Train Station, with the Tourist Guide and accommodation on board the Green Train; 09.00 Departure of the train for Laconi;

09.25 Stop at Isili Station, the longest after the one at Laconi, allowing you to visit the Nuraghe Is Paras (optional ticket), splendid and right on the line;

11.00 Passage through the ancient valley now transformed into the lake of Is Barroccus, which contains the islands, once hills, on one of which the country church of S. Sebastiano still appears, but also in front of the “Sarcidano” station, recently restored to its former glories;

11.50 Arrival in Laconi, the town of S.Ignazio;

12.15 Guided visits to the Maggiore waterfall, the Castle and the vast Aymerich Park, with its numerous Mediterranean and exotic botanical species;

1.30 pm Full lunch based on local products;

3.15 pm Guided tour of the village of Laconi, with the birthplace of Sant'Ignazio and the church of Sant'Ambrogio and Ignazio;

4.20 pm Gathering at Laconi train station;

4.30 pm Departure towards Mandas;

6:55 pm Arrival in Mandas.
